Scouting NC State: Special Teams

Special teams are always important (after last weekend, we know how important they can be). The Bulls will have to deal with another veteran group of specialists for the Wolfpack.

Place kicker

At starting place kicker is senior Niklas Sade (6’3″ 219 lbs.). He is just 2 of 5 in field goals this year, hitting a long of 41 yards. He has kicked off 13 times this year, landing 9 for touchbacks. His back-up is sophomore William Stephenson (6’3″ 12 lbs.).

Punter

The starting punter is senior Will Baumann (6’6″ 187 lbs.). He has punted 4 times this year, averaging 45.8 yards per punt. 2 of his punts have gone for over 50 yards. His back-up is Stephenson.

Holder

The holder is punter Will Baumann.

Long snapper

The long snapper is senior Scott Thompson (5’1″ 244 lbs.) who is a 3-year starter entering this season. He was named All American by Phil Steele last season. Behind him is junior Ben Garentt (6′ 231 lbs.).

Kick return

At kick return is sophomore running back Matt Dayes (5’9″ 205 lbs.). He has 3 returns for a total of 75 yards on the year. Behind him is freshman cornerback Malcolm Means (6’1″ 189 lbs.) and freshman wide receiver Stephen Louis (6’2″ 212 lbs.)

Punt return

At punt return is sophomore wide receiver Bra’Lon Cherry (5’11” 189 lbs.). He has 2 returns for 33 yards so far on the year. Behind him is freshman wide receiver Bo Hines (6’1″ 190 lbs.) and freshman running back Ben Grazen (5’9″ 190 lbs.).
