Meet the NC State Coaching Staff

Posted: September 8, 2014 in Football

NC State is led by head coach Dave Doeren, who is entering just his second season at the helm. Before taking over at NC State, he put together a very successful career at Northern Illinois. Learn more about this staff and what they bring to the field in this game.

Head Coach Dave Doeren – Doeren entered the season with a 26-13 overall record. Prior to his arrival in Raleigh, he was the head coach for two years at Northern Illinois. During that time, he led the Huskies to an 11-3 season and a memorable 12-1 season and an Orange Bowl trip. Before that he was the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin from 2006-2010 and before that, he was the linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator for Kansas State (2002-2005). Doeren is a coach that is known for his defensive mind but also brings a unique spread offense that helped him back at Northern Illinois.

Offensive coordinator Matt Canada – Canada is entering his second season at NC State. Before coming to the Wolfpack, he was the offensive coordinator at Wisconsin back in 2012 and the coordinator at Northern Illinois, bringing a spread style of offense with him. Before the previous two stops, he was the offensive coordinator at Indian from 2004 to 2010 and before that he was an assistant coach at Northern Illinois from 1998 to 2003. Expect Canada to spread the field and get his skill players the ball in space.

Defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Dave Huxtable – Huxtable is also entering his 2nd year at NC State. Before this stop, he was the coordinator at Pitt and in 2011, was the linebackers coach at Wisconsin (familiar with Doeren and Canada). In interesting note about Huxtable was his stint from 2004 to 2010, as the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach (special teams at one point as well) for UCF. USF had success during those years so it will be interesting to see how much Huxtable has changed since those days.
