Scouting Western Carolina: Special Teams

Here we go, time to take a look at the special teams unit for Western Carolina. The Catamounts return their starting place kicker, but have a new punter that will be taking over full time this year.

Place kicker: Richard Sigmon – 5’10” 185 lbs. – Senior

Sigmon was 10 for 13 last year in field goal attempts (76%) hitting a long of 49 yards. He was 7 for 7 in field goal attempts between 20-29 yards. He was 2 of 5 on field goals from 40 to 49 yards. He was 23 for 26 in extra point attempts as well. He was also the kick-off specialist, launching 48 kick-offs last season, averaging 53.8 yards per kick. He had 6 touchbacks and just 1 kick out of bounds. Sigmon has a fairly strong leg and proved to be very accurate inside the 30 yard line.

Punter : Blake Metcalf – 6’1″ 180 lbs. – Redshirt sophomore

Metcalf is taking over for last year’s punter Clark Sechrest who graduated at the end of last year. Metcalf punted one ball for 57 yards last year, landing it inside the opponents 20 yard line.

Long snapper: Chandler Addertion – 6’3″ 220 lbs. – Redshirt sophomore

Chandler starting all 12 games last year, making he a serviceable veteran. He recorded 6 tackles as well.

Punt return: Garret Brown – 6′ 195 lbs. – Senior – RB

Brown returned 8 punts last year for 60 yards, averaging 7.5 yards per return.

Terryon Robinson – 5’11” 185 lbs. – Sophomore – Wide receiver

Robinson returned 5 punts for 17 yards, averaging 3.4 yards per return.

Kick Return: Shaun Warren – 5’7″ 175 lbs. – Senior – Running back

Warren returned 22 kicks last year for 427 total yards, averaging 19.4 yards a return. He is a speedy returner that Marvin Kloss will have to be careful of during the game.

Steffon Hill – 5’11” 185 lbs. – Sophomore – Wide receiver

Hill returned 5 kicks for 80 yards, averaging 16 yards per return.
