USF WSoccer takes on Stetson in second exhibition game

Posted: August 15, 2014 in Soccer

The Bulls return to Corbett to play their last exhibition game of the year before starting their 2014-15 season.

The Bulls will take on Stetson in their second exhibition game of the year. USF dropped the first exhibition game on the road on Monday agaisnt Miami by a score of 2 to 1. The Stetson Hatters went 6-10-2 (4-4-1) last season, but were just 2-7-1 away from home. The Bulls are 10-2-2 all time against the Hatters all time and after last season where the Hatters gave up 1.83 goals per game, USF is hoping for more positive results (game is slated for Friday August 15th at 7:30 PM, depending on the weather).

The Hatters will be trying to get their roster set having to replace Alyssa Welsh (4 goals and 2 assists) and Kait Jones (4 goals) who were both key players for the Hatters last season.

Stetson is led by sophomore midfielder/forward Eduarda Pavao who started 1 game in 8 total games. She scored 3 goals with 1 assist on just 8 shots. She was fairly affected in her limited time and should see a lot of action against the Bulls. Junior midfielder/forward Mara Keomanivane made 18 starts last year, scoring 2 goals (27 shots) and added 3 assists. Junior midfielder/defender Danielle Hurme made 7 starts in 16 games, scoring 2 goals and added one assist on 15 shots.

The Hatters are facing a similar issue to the Bulls, who will be their goal keeper. They have three freshmen, Karlie Hightower, Ashley Ingolia, and Kahri Smith, that could all see some playing time. With a green goal keeper in net, the Bulls should be able to get some solid looks at the net.

For the Bulls, they will continue to sort out the offense. Jessica Clark had the goal for USF in the Miami game, but they will want to get Demi Stokes and the other top strikers involved as well. In net, the Bulls will continue to sort out their starting goalkeeper issues as the three freshman Thordis Aikman, Lydia Cagle, and Katarina Elliott battle it out for the starting job.
