USF beat Memphis 5 to 3 in the quarterfinals of the AAC tournament, moving them to 41-14 on the season. Nevins pitched well, the offense came through, and great defense helped win the day for the Bulls.

The Bulls struck first in the first inning after Julie Weber started the game with a single and Kourtney Salvarola reached on an error. Stephanie Medina would single to bring home Weber. After that, there was a double steal attempt and Salvarola was nearly caught at home but a bad throw allowed her to score, making it 2 to 0. In the second, Kristen Wyckoff (went 3 for 3 on the day) singled and stole second and was later brought home by Weber making it 3 to 0. In the third, Medina would start with a single and was able to jog home after Lee Ann Spivey hit a 2-run home run, making it 5 to 0.

Memphis would answer back, hitting a 2-run home run of their own, making it 5 to 2. USF threatened in the bottom of the 5th, but they weren’t able to cash in with two runners on. The Tigers would tack on one more in the 7th, but Nunn (who came in during the 6th inning) closed the door.

Sara Nevins went 5.1 innings in the game, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, and struck out 7 batters. Erica Nunn went 1.2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 run, a walk and struck out 1 batter.

The Bulls will play Louisville tomorrow at 5 PM.
