USF softball sweeps first double header while Sara Nevins makes history

Like a BOSS!

The Bulls improved to 38-14 (12-5) as they swept the first double header against the Temple Owls today. Sara Nevins made history as she pitched a perfect game, the 2nd of her career, capping off a huge day for the ladies.

USF dominated in game one of the double header as Sara Nevins made history again. The senior pitched a perfect game, the second of her career. She worked the 5 innings, striking out 9 as the Bulls run-ruled the Temple Owls 8 to 0. The win improved USF to 37-14 (11-5) after the victory. The offense was led by Kourtney Salvarola who went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and her 14th home run of the year. Karla Claudio went 1 for 2 with a home run and drove in 3 runs. Veronica Gajownik went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs as well in the winning effort. Nevins dominated and the offense didn’t back off, all leading to a huge first win in the final regular season series.

In game two, USF would get on first with a home run in the third from Monica Santos, making it 1 to 0. In the 6th, Kourtney Salvarola would lead it off with a single, later pinch-ran for by Kristen Wyckoff. Wyckoff would score after Lee Ann Spivey hit a sac fly, making it 2 to 0. Dani Wayt would then hit a double followed by another double off of the bat of Veronica Gajownik, making it 3 to 0. Temple would hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th, making it 3 to 1. Temple would get one batter on in the 7th, but Nevins would shut it down, giving USF the 3 to 1 victory. With the win, the Bulls went to 38-14 (12-5). Erica Nunn started the game, working 2.2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 2 walks and struck out 5 batters. Nevins would toss the final 4.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and struck out 7.

The Bulls  and Owls will play two more (same times) tomorrow to end up the regular season. USF is hoping for two more wins to close out the regular season.
