Per reports: USF MBB lands commit in Ruben Guerrero

It appears that Coach Antigua landed a new commitment last night for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

From the Tampa Bay Times – News came out last night that Coach Orlando Antigua landed his first commit as the head coach, gaining a verbal commitment from center Ruben Guerrero.

The 6’10” 210 center/forward out of Sunrise Christian Academy (Wichita, KS) originally came from Spain and has quickly risen in just a short time. The Spain native had interest from Indiana, but decided to verbally commit to the Bulls (had visited a few weeks ago).

From all reports (per the quotes from his prep coach in the Times) Guerrero is a bit of a project player. He has the frame and size to play in the paint and has added 20 pounds since coming to the states, but will need to add more to stand up in the low block. He has work to do in posting up defenders, but has the ability to finish at the rim and also has some range from the perimeter, an intriguing skill set for someone as large as him.

So what does this mean for the Bulls? For one, it adds a big body to a depleted front line for the Bulls. Its too early to say if Guerrero would start day one at center, but having someone that is 6’10” and has some speed and skills, it is a major boost to the roster. The Bulls still have 4 scholarships left and I would expect Coach Antigua to add at least a few more players to the roster to reload the lineup for the upcoming season.
