USF baseball beats Memphis 3 to 1

USF one a strong game behind the arm of Jimmy Herget, winning 3 to 1 over Memphis to start the series. The Bulls are now 23-18 (9-7) after a complete game effort from the sophomore ace.

Memphis struck first in the 6th inning, adding a run on an RBI double from Zach Willis, making it 1 to 0 for the Tigers. The Bulls would answer in the bottom half of the inning after Austin Lueck hit a single and Kyle Teaf reached on an error. Hayden Kelley would then reach on a fielders choice to load the bases. Levi Borders would then come up, fouling out, but it was enough to allow Teaf to score to make it 1 to 1. Lawrence Pardo then came up and hit a single bringing home Luke Borders and Kelley, giving the Bulls the 3 to 1 lead in support of Jimmy Herget. Memphis would come close in the 8th inning after two straight base hits, but Herget was on his game, pitching the distance and securing the win for the Bulls.

Jimmy Herget was on fire in this game. The sophomore pitched the entire game (104 total pitches), allowing 6 hits, 1 run, and striking out 7 (no walks) in the winning effort. Herget is now 6-5 on the season.

The Bulls will try to make it 2 in a row, first pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
