The USF Bulls won 4 to 3 over Houston tonight, running their record to 22-16 (8-6) on the year. It wasn’t pretty or easy, but they got it done and will try to take the series tomorrow afternoon.

The Bulls struck first in the 1st inning after Kyle Teaf and Lawrence Pardo both singled to start the game (Daniel Portales advanced them both up with a sac bunt). Luke Maglich would then ground out to bring home Teaf and put the Bulls ahead 1 to 0. Buddy Putnam then hit a single to bring home Pardo, making it 2 to 0. After Luke Borders walked, brother Levi Borders doubled in Putnam and Luke to make it 4 to 0. The Cougars answered a bit in the bottom with a 2-run home run from Casey Grayson, cutting the lead to 4 to 2. Houston added a run in the 7th inning, but the USF pitching staff with Lawrence Pardo holding the mound down, shut down any rally from the Cougars.  Pardo worked the rest of the game and sealed the deal for the Bulls.

Casey Mulholland worked 5.1 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, allowing 3 walks and striking out 2 batters. The hero of the game (after being at first base and scoring run) was Pardo. He worked the rest of the game, working 3.2 innings, allowing 3 hits, just 1 run and striking out 4 batters as he shut down the Houston rally.

The Bulls will wrap up the series tomorrow at 1 PM.
