Sara BOSS Nevins recorded 2 wins today, making it 90 in her historic career.

The Bulls took the first two games of the three game series against Houston today, running their record to 32-13 (6-5) on the year. USF has needed to add some big wins to their resume and get the momentum going down the stretch and taking two from Houston, which was sitting in first place in the AAC, was huge today.

In the first game of the double header, the Bulls got on the board first in the first inning after Juli Weber led the game off with a double, followed by a single from Ashli Goff. Stephanie Medina would then hit a single to drive home Weber and put USF up 1 to 0. In the third, USF increased the lead to 3 to 0 after Weber walked, Kourtney Salvarola single and a walk to Medina, Spivey would reach on a fielding error from Houston to score Medina and Salvarola. Houston would answer back in the bottom of the inning after Erica Nunn hit a batter and walked another, Selena Hernandez hit a 3-run home run to even the score. Karla Claudio would replace Nunn but a double and a sac fly followed by an error from USF, would make it 5 to 3 Houston. However, the Bulls would answer right back in the 4th. Monica Santos led off with a single and Weber followed with another single. Salvarola would then double home Santos and Medina would follow with a 2-run single to make it 6 to 5 as both teams continued to go back and forth. After that inning, despite chances for both teams with runners on base, no one could move a runner home. Sara Nevins came in for the 4th inning and shut it down to help the Bulls secure the 6 to 5 win.

Erica Nunn worked 2.1 innings, allowing 1 hit, 4 runs, 1 walk, and struck out 3 but hit three batters. Karla Claudio worked two-thirds of an innings, allowing a hit, a run, and struck out one. Sara Nevins worked the final 4 innings, allowing 1 hit, 3 walks and struck out 1 batter as she recorded her 19th win of the season. USF went to 31-13 (5-5) after the win.

In game two, the Bulls were down quickly after 4 innings, 2 to 0. Erica Nunn struggled after working 4 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs and striking out just 1 batter. Sara Nevins came in after her and worked another 4 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 3 as she notched win number 90th win, tying the program record (have a few more games ahead too). The offense struck in the 4th inning, scoring all 4 runs. Ashli Goff got it started with a bunt single followed by a walk to Salvarola. Medina was able to reach on an error from the third baseman, allowing Goff to score. Lee Ann Spivey would then single to bring home Salvarola. A sac fly from Claudio brought home Medina after that. Then after a D’anna Devine single, Nicollette was hit by a pitch (bases were loaded) which allowed Spivey to come home and put USF up 4 to 2 for good.

This was a huge day for the Bulls as they look to make a late season move up the AAC standings and try to make it to the postseason for the third straight year. They will look for the series sweep tomorrow at 1 PM.
