Hopkins enters his last season as a Bull (Picture credit:

Wide receiver Derrick Hopkins, aka “flea”, returns for his final season as a Bull.  Hopkins has made a name for himself on the track with his elite speed, but can he use that speed on the field to become a homerun threat?

Derrick Hopkins – Redshirt senior – 5’5” 158 lbs. – Opa Locka, FL (Miami Monsignor Pace HS) – Wide receiver

2012: Hopkins appeared in 8 games last season.  He rushed 5 times for 14 yards.  He caught 14 passes for 278 yards and 1 touchdown (long of 41 yards).  He also returned 5 kicks for 83 yards (16.6 per return).  In 2011, he appeared in just 5 games, returning 1 kick for 24 yards and caught 4 passes for 34 yards.

2013 Bull Rush Projection: Hopkins has elite speed, as he has proven on the track for the Bulls over the years.  However, due to his small size, he hasn’t been a big time weapon for the football squad.  He has great return abilities and should factor in as a slot receiver, but don’t expect a huge season for him or a lot of touches.  They have been trying for years to get him the ball, but now with the pro style the offense is shifting too, the spread system he would thrive in, is now gone.  He don’t get a ton of passes thrown his way, but when he does, the speed he has will be fun to watch.
